What is the Virginia Minimum Wage?
The Virginia Minimum Wage is the lowest hourly wage that an employee working in Virginia can legally be paid. Both Virginia and the federal government have set a legal minimum wage - Virginia's is $7.25 per hour, while the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. Federal law states that the applicable minimum wage is whichever minimum wage is higher.
Virginia Labor Laws
Virginia does not have an official minimum wage rate, and instead adopts the Federal Minimum Wage by reference. Virginia's minimum wage statutes are only applicable to companies with 4 or more employees, and any employee exempt from the Minimum Wage under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act is aso exempt from Virginia's minimum wage laws.

Full time minimum wage workers in Virginia earn a total of $290.00 per week and approximately $15,080.00 per year (based on a 8 hour days and a 260-day work year) before taxes. The federal poverty threshold for a household of two is $14,570 per year.
Virginia Overtime Wage Law
All Virginia employees working over 40 hours in a work week are entitled an overtime wage of at least 1.5 times their regular hourly pay rate - therefore, the overtime minimum wage in VA is $10.88 per hour.
In addition, Virginia law requires all employees working over 0 hours in a single day to be paid overtime.
